Yes – these server generations are also purchased new for our customers. As a rule, older generations remain available from manufacturers for years until they reach end of life. This usually happens after the second or third subsequent generation. It is not necessary to replace the server outside of the end of life period, as spare parts are still available in stock.

In contrast, servers that have already been in use are only re-rented by IP-Projects via the server depot. The systems from test environments, reconfigurations, or similar, which are also usually significantly less expensive, can be booked there on request. They are technically flawless and have been tested by IP-Projects.

Yes – all servers from previous CPU generations have redundant power supplies, ensuring high availability right up to the server. The power supplies are each connected to different power feeds in the data center.

Servers with older CPU generations are based on reliable, established hardware that has proven itself in practice. They are ideal for customers looking for cost-effective computing power to rent.

Yes – Prev bare metal rental servers are equipped with CPUs from the latest generation of our performance server series, which means that current applications are supported without compromise. If newer CPU features are required, we naturally recommend the latest CPU generations from our Intel and AMD performance server series. Our IP Projects Support team will be happy to advise you on whether server systems with previous-generation CPUs are the right solution for your application.

With up-to-date operating systems, patches, and security configurations, even older systems can be operated securely. These are not yet end-of-life servers. Management and BIOS/firmware versions continue to receive patches from manufacturers, so there are no security concerns, even with CPU bugs.

Yes – all IP-Projects servers have an IPMI interface to which you have unrestricted access. We also provide an SMB share to enable individual ISO installation via IPMI.

The IPMI is also secured within the IP-Projects security concept for server systems via an IPMI proxy, so that it is not available on the public Internet. However, monitoring of the IPMI measurements is still possible via the operating system using various monitoring tools such as Check_MK. We offer this for a small additional charge.

No, unfortunately we do not offer CPU upgrades for the following reasons:

• High risk of damage to the old CPU during removal/conversion of the previous server
• Poor reusability of old CPUs
• High costs for technicians with little additional income

If a more powerful CPU is required at a later date, it will unfortunately be necessary to rent a new server and terminate the old system at the end of its term. If you have agreed to a 12-month contract term, a server change can still be made earlier, but this is at the discretion of our customer support team. Please feel free to contact us.

IP-Projects ensures that sufficient spare parts are always available in the spare parts warehouse of our data centers for all server generations. This also applies to older server generations.

However, if an older server generation reaches end of life and we are no longer able to source new spare parts, our customers will receive a free upgrade to a newer server generation in the event of a defect.

The speed at which defective hardware is replaced does not depend on the service booked at IP-Projects, so our customer support makes no distinction between servers with older or newer CPU generations. On-site technicians are available 24/7 during our business hours or outside of business hours as part of our on-call support for technical malfunctions.

If a server has a defect, the defective component will be replaced as quickly as possible.

If the server has hot-plug SSDs, defective SSDs can even be replaced during operation without any problems.

Yes, of course we can also offer management options for servers with older CPU generations. These are available to the same extent as for dedicated servers with newer CPU generations.
