Summary

On May 1, 2021, we released our own dedicated server management web interface for the first time. After the launch of the system, all customers were migrated step by step to the IP-Projects server management system over a period of four months. Since then, we have already successfully implemented a large number of feature requests from our customers. Below you will find information about the key features of our in-house IP-Projects dedicated server management web interface.

General management functions

The general management functions describe the features of server management that are not assigned to any specific product or service.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-Factor Authentication

A key feature of today's world is two-factor authentication: in order to perform certain actions within the server panel, it is necessary to set up 2FA after logging in. Our web interface supports all common two-factor authentication methods.

All functions within server administration that could lead to data manipulation or assign new rights are protected by 2FA, meaning that even performing a new installation requires two-factor authentication. This offers our customers additional protection against third-party interference.

Action Log

Action Log

In order to guarantee our customers maximum security and traceability, we keep a comprehensive access log for our server management. IP information is automatically deleted after a certain retention period in accordance with GDPR regulations.

The action log can be used to trace whether there has been any unauthorized access during a defined period and what actions were performed.

Co-User

Co-User

The entire server panel is structured according to an admin-reseller-end customer structure. You can switch between the levels as needed, for example, to check for missing customer rights. In addition, end customers have the option of creating co-users to give friends or administrators limited access to certain server management functions, for example.

The assigned rights are inherited. An end customer or co-user cannot therefore be granted more rights than a reseller. In addition, you can create rights sets to make it easier to create new users.

Whitelabel

Whitelabel

Upon request, we can provide resellers with server management for IP projects as a white label version. This allows you to customize the color scheme, add your own logo, edit the title tag, store DNS zones, and define your own URL.

It is also possible to completely customize the email templates for the automatic sending of access data and system information.

API Access

API Access

For our server management, we offer a powerful REST API that can be activated upon request. This interface enables seamless integration into existing IT infrastructures and allows for automated control and monitoring of your servers. Standardized HTTP methods can be used to control all central functions such as configuration, status queries, traffic evaluation, and rDNS. The API is well documented and supports secure communication, so that individual requirements can be implemented without any problems.

Network Management

The integration of network management is one of the key features of our server administration. In addition to the rollout of VLANs, the documentation of cabling, for example, has the highest priority.

IPv4 & IPv6 Management

IPv4 & IPv6 Management

IPv4 & IPv6 management is, of course, an essential part of network management in the IP-Projects server panel. If you are an IP-Projects customer and rent your own IP subnet, we will always provide you with your own V-LAN. V-LAN authorization allows you to assign IP addresses to specific servers on your own. For IPv6 addresses, the smallest unit is a /64 IPv6 network; for IPv4 addresses, it is a /29 IPv4 network.

rDNS Management

rDNS Management

Our server panel allows you to easily manage reverse DNS entries (rDNS) – both for the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of your own servers and for addresses in rented subnets. This gives you full control over the name resolution of your infrastructure, improves email deliverability, and strengthens the trustworthiness of your services vis-à-vis external systems.

Traffic Analysis

Traffic Analysis

Our server panel offers detailed traffic analysis – ideal for analyzing and optimizing your server usage. Even if traffic is included (fair use), the analysis provides valuable insights into consumption, peak times, and trends. For a better overview, you can create your own traffic groups and view and compare the data traffic of several servers together.

Dedicated Server Management

The management of dedicated servers is one of our core tasks as a hosting company. We rely exclusively on our own infrastructure, which has proven itself over many years. Our customers who rent a dedicated server have access to these functions thanks to the server management panel.

Automated Installation

Automated Installation

A core element of server management is our server installer. This guides the user through the installation process either fully automatically or allows manual installation via SSH/VNC access and ISO image.

In addition to a wide range of operating systems, we also support a variety of software-based RAID modes, such as:

  • Software RAID in various RAID levels: 0, 1, 5, 6, 10
  • ZFS RAID in various RAID levels: Striped, Mirror, RAIDZ1, RAIDZ2, RAIDZ3
KVMM / IPMI Proxy

KVMM / IPMI Proxy

To ensure that your servers' IPMI management consoles are not vulnerable to attacks on the publicly accessible Internet, our customers using Supermicro, Gigabyte, and Asrock Rack IPMI systems have access to an IPMI proxy. Access to the IPMI is provided via a one-time URL. The server panel generates a temporary, public URL for accessing the IPMI KVM console. The actual IPMI interface is protected in a separate, internal network segment. An extra VPN is therefore not required to access the IPMI.

The one-time URL expires after a certain period of time, but can be regenerated at any time.

IPMI Status Information

IPMI Status Information

Every IPMI management web interface provides detailed information about the “health status” of a server. This IPMI information, such as CPU temperature, disk temperature, or power consumption of the power supplies, is clearly displayed on our server panel and can be accessed with just a few clicks.

Among other things, this feature helps you quickly identify possible hardware-related causes of errors during diagnostics.

vServer Management

In order to be able to manage all server products from a single server management system, the administration of our vServers has also been fully integrated into the server management panel. This provides our customers with numerous vServer administration functions.

Cloud-Init / ISO-Installation

Cloud-Init / ISO-Installation

A wide range of Cloud-Init installation images are available in server management for the automatic installation of vServers. This even applies to Windows operating systems in our Windows vServer offerings.

If you want to install your own operating system without using Cloud-Init, you can integrate your own ISO image into our vServer web interface, which allows for easy installation via VNC console.

vServer Backups

vServer Backups

Our vServer backups are stored on Proxmox backup servers located in a different data center. Backups are created cyclically and can be restored with a single click from the server management interface.

We cannot implement automatic vServer backups for all vServer products, as the backup duration depends heavily on the size of the VM storage. Unfortunately, we cannot offer the option of automated vServer backups for our Storage vServer and Promo vServer products.

vServer Snapshots

vServer Snapshots

We offer the option of creating snapshots for each of our virtual machines. A snapshot is usually required in order to have a “rollback point” during system updates. This means that if you are performing a major system update, you can use the snapshot function to revert to a data status prior to the server update in the event of an error.

To avoid major system loads, the snapshots created are automatically deactivated after a certain expiration time.

DDoS Protection Management

Another core feature of our server management is DDoS protection management. Basic functionalities and monitoring features have been integrated into our server panel to make it as easy as possible for you, our IP-Projects customers, to use.

Automatic Notifications

Automatic Notifications

In the IP-Projects server panel, you have the option of configuring automatic DDoS notifications. Various notification options are available:

  • Email notification
  • Your own webhook
  • Discord webhook
  • Mattermost webhook
  • Slack webhook
  • Telegram bot

The notification function automatically informs you about ongoing attacks on your server systems for the topics you have configured.

Attack Statistics

Attack Statistics

Attack statistics integrated into the server panel provide you with information about current attacks/attack targets as well as past attacks on your server systems.

If attacks are not filtered properly, our administrators can also obtain in-depth information about attacks after the fact and make any necessary filter adjustments.

DDoS Zones

DDoS Zones

The DDoS Protection solution from IP-Projects works with so-called DDoS zones. Each of these filter zones contains specific filter templates that are used to filter traffic in the event of an attack or on a permanent basis. It is therefore important not to operate multiple services per IP address in order to be able to assign the IP address to a specific filter zone. Assigning a specific filter zone allows the filter appliance to filter traffic as accurately as possible in the event of an attack.
